Scion has created a unique driving culture founded on innovative styling, economy and affordability. That trend continues with introduction of the 2008 xB urban utility vehicle at .

The 2008 xB offers more room, amenities and power than its previous models. gave the latest model more interior room by adding four inches to the wheelbase and 12 inches to length.

"No one in the automotive industry is as hard-wire-connected to its owners as is Scion, and the 2008 xB is a perfect example," said Mark Templin, Scion vice president. "Our owners told us they wanted a bigger box, and we responded with a bigger, better xB."

Scion xBFirst introduced in 2000, the latest xB maintains its iconoclastic box design. Its exterior contains soft angles between its wide and flat paneling, a high beltline, elongated headlamps that wrap around the side of the vehicle.

The Scion design team created a lounge-like interior with more than 21 cubic feet of cargo area behind the rear seats. The 60/40 split rear seats fold flat for hauling large loads. Front seats fully recline for increased cargo space or relaxation.

Some of the things you can't see from the exterior give the xB a smooth ride. Scion engineers increased wheel size to 16 inches, an inch wider than previous models. They also added McPherson strut suspension in front and rear.

Under the hood

The xB delivers more power than its predecessors. A 2.4 L dual overhead-cam four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) produces 158 horsepower, 55 more horsepower than the previous year.

Transmissions are available in either five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic with sequential shifting, the first time it is offered in either Scion or vehicles.

Safety & Convenience

As part of Scion's efforts to increase safety for all passengers, the xB provides driver and front passenger dual stage airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags.

The xB uses Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control to improve handling. It also offers four-wheel anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist.

The standard, 160-watt Pioneer audio system features iPod connectivity and a mini-jack port located beneath the HVAC controls for easy access. It integrates track, artist and album information from the iPod into a one-line display on the head unit's screen.
